One of the great joys of being an artist is that you are taught to truly observe your surroundings. No longer does a quick glance suffice. My training taught me to observe, analyze and remember what I was seeing. It opened a world to me which has enriched my entire life.

“Sunrise Over Pelican Cay” is one of my favorite seascapes. The magnificence of the rising sun creates a light coloring the clouds in delicate pinks, purples, and gold. A touch of turquoise can be seen in the sky at the left. In the foreground, the waves crash onto the rocks at Gillam Bay, washing more sargassum seaweed ashore. In the distance is the small island of Pelican Cay, standing sentinel and beckoning swimmers to come for a visit.

Who would not be awed by this gift from the Almighty? Our lives are blessed with the certainty that, as the poet writes, 'God is in His heaven and all’s right with the world!' - Alton
